Self-Love…. What is it?

We are hearing about self-love more and more these days and I feel people are really starting to see the importance of self-love especially as an important part of their healing journey.

So what does it mean to really love yourself?

It is incredibly important for you to love yourself. No one else will love you unless you love yourself first. If you don’t see your own value, how do you expect anyone else to?

If you don’t love yourself, you won’t be able to take care of yourself emotionally, mentally or physically. This means that you will try and find people to do this for you, outside of yourself instead of being able to give yourself these things internally.

You will find that you are constantly let down by others and disappointed. No one else is you. They are not inside your mind. SO how on earth would they know exactly what you need when you need it?

Repair the relationship with yourself and watch your life change.

Here are a few ideas on where to start!

  • See a therapist and come up with a healing plan to assist you with healing old wounds and developing self-love
  • Date yourself! Take yourself out. Dinner, a movie, a bubble bath or a walk on the beach and vino in the sunshine
  • Whatever makes you feel good
  • Start saying no to things you really don’t want to do
  • Allow yourself to make mistakes without your inner critic chiming in
  • Develop a self-care plan for the next month… and follow it
  • Buy yourself flowers
  • Self-pleasure- A little stuck? Check out this blog by Goop
  • Start letting go of toxic people and habits
  • Learn about yourself. What do you like and enjoy? Do more of it! What don’t you like? Do less of it
  • Move your body… whether it be dancing around your living room or heading out for an exercise class
  • Take time to process your fears, grief or loss you’ve experienced
  • Show gratitude daily
  • Smile
  • Put yourself first!

Have a think about how you can start loving yourself a little more each day.

Remember, you’re the most important person in your life! Start treating yourself like it!
